About the Role:
The Digital Services division of Lancashire County Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal ICT Engineer/Designer to oversee our dynamic database team in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to leverage your expertise and contribute significantly to the transformation of our Digital Services, ultimately benefiting the Council and its constituents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Governance: Direct and manage the database team, ensuring compliance with best practices and governance standards.
- Team Development: Utilize your leadership skills to inspire and mentor a team of proficient database administrators.
- Process Optimization: Implement innovative strategies to enhance efficiency and achieve cost reductions across processes and technologies.
- Technical Proficiency: Deliver a combination of database application management and development across diverse technologies, including Oracle and SQL Server.
Essential Deliverables:
- Provide effective line management, including coaching, mentoring, and training.
- Oversee security, compliance, risk management, and capacity planning for the database environment.
- Identify automation opportunities to improve database service delivery.
- Support the execution of large-scale, complex projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule.
- Manage software installations, updates, and ensure optimal service availability.
- Conduct performance diagnostics, tuning, and oversee change management processes.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives and document database policies and standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in managing and motivating a technical team.
- Extensive knowledge of database technologies such as Oracle Database (19c Enterprise Edition), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition, or Microsoft Azure SQL.
- Expertise in designing and implementing secure, high-performance database solutions.
- Experience in database system monitoring, administration, compliance, and capacity planning.
- Familiarity with best practice frameworks like ITIL, TOGAF, or ISO27001.
- A strong commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
