Job Summary

Key Responsibilities: As a Hospital Play Specialist, you will play a vital role in creating a child-friendly environment and providing play activities that promote normal social, physical, cognitive, and emotional growth.

Main Duties:
  • Environment Creation: Design and maintain a child-friendly environment that encourages natural play and provides opportunities for social, physical, cognitive, and emotional growth.
  • Procedure Explanation: Help children and their families understand medical procedures and equipment, reducing stress and anxiety and promoting a better understanding of care and treatment.
  • Relationship Building: Form supportive relationships with children and their families, helping them adjust to their current environment.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Child and Young People's Emotional and Developmental (CYPED) team to meet the needs of children.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain the play equipment and environment to ensure a safe and stimulating space for children.
  • Team Contribution: Contribute to setting, monitoring, and maintaining standards within the team.
Person Specification:
  • Essential:
    • Hospital Play Specialist qualification
    • Paediatric experience
  • Desirable:
    • Paediatric, nursery nurse, or school experience for 3 years
    • Experience of working with children and families
    • Willingness to work towards HPS qualification in the first year of employment
    • Knowledge of child development
