Position Overview
The East London NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce an opportunity for a highly skilled Clinical Psychologist to join our dedicated team. This role focuses on enhancing access to evidence-based interventions for individuals facing intricate emotional challenges, particularly those linked to personality disorders. We are seeking candidates who have completed accredited training in either Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) or Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) and possess experience in supervising colleagues. We are also open to considering newly qualified psychologists at Band 7 under a preceptorship, allowing them to develop the necessary competencies for an 8a role within an 18-month to 2-year timeframe, contingent upon successful completion of the preceptorship.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to collaborative work with service users, their families, and fellow professionals to foster a psychologically safe environment conducive to effective treatment delivery. Responsibilities include:
- Active participation in weekly team consultation sessions.
- Providing expert guidance, supervision, training, and consultation to other professionals and teams to promote effective, psychologically-informed care across the region.
- Engaging in the co-development of care pathways through involvement in clinical research, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities
Newly qualified psychologists may be appointed at Band 7 under a preceptorship to work towards meeting the requirements for Band 8a, subject to satisfactory completion of the preceptorship process.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent training as an applied Practitioner Psychologist.
- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Post-qualification experience in conducting trauma-informed psychotherapeutic assessments and risk assessments in a community mental health context.
- Experience managing a caseload autonomously in a community mental health setting.
- Clinical experience in delivering Dialectical Behaviour Therapy to individuals with complex emotional needs related to personality disorders.
- Experience working with individuals with comorbid mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance misuse, and psychosis.
- Experience supervising staff and/or students.
- Ability to effectively liaise with other agencies and professionals.
- Experience in teaching and training others.
- Active participation in co-produced service planning and delivery.
- Experience utilizing outcome measures in clinical practice.
Desirable
- Clinical experience in supervising the delivery of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy to individuals with complex emotional needs.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Ability to manage highly stressful situations involving service users, families, and staff.
- Demonstrable skills in clinical outcome evaluation, audit, research, and clinical governance.
Desirable
- Knowledge and skills in evidence-based therapies for individuals with personality disorders.
