Research Associate/Fellow in Geospatial Data Science

To make a significant contribution to the University of Glasgow's research in Geospatial Data Science, this research associate/fellow will work with Professor Ana Basiri and the team to develop and apply various methods and models to understand human behaviour in complex urban systems. The successful candidate will contribute to the formulation and delivery of world-leading research, develop their own career and team through delivering high-impact outputs, and engage in collaborative research with industry partners.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and apply agent-based models and computational social science techniques to simulate and understand individual and group behaviour in cities.
- Collaborate with the Geospatial Data Science team and project partners to co-design and develop inclusive and responsible technologies.
- Conduct research individually and/or jointly in accordance with project deliverables and research strategy.
- Develop and enhance research profile and reputation, including contributing to publications in high-profile journals and gathering indicators of esteem.
- Present research at international and national conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Support the implementation of FAIR principles in geospatial data science research.
- Lead and contribute to the organisation, supervision, and mentoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Engage in outreach activities, teaching, and supervision as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
- Undertake safety management and laboratory-related duties as necessary.
- Engage in personal, professional, and career development to enhance specialist and transferable skills.
Essential:
- A PhD in a relevant academic/research discipline, with experience of personal development in statistics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative geography, or similar disciplines.
- Extensive knowledge of quantitative data analysis, geo-statistics, agent-based simulation, computational social sciences, and evolutionary psychology.
- Experience in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, R).
Desirable:
- Good knowledge and experience of Geo-AI, spatio-temporal data, and volunteer geographic data.
For appointment at Grade 8:
- Good team leadership skills.
- A track record of presentation and publication of research results in quality journals/conferences.
- Experience of making a leading contribution in academic activities.
- Ability to demonstrate a degree of independence in research.
