Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our dynamic team at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS FT. As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have expertise in bilingualism and a passion for promoting and sharing good practice with colleagues and partners.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills, contributing to the development of a Balanced System in Birmingham to improve services for children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), particularly bilingual children in our multicultural city.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide Speech and Language Therapy at a highly specialist level, with a focus on bilingualism, in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support holistic assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and young people.
  • Demonstrate clinical leadership in bilingualism and represent the local team/service area in meetings to support and develop quality services for bilingual children and young people.
  • Manage a team of SLT staff, comprising bands 4 to 7, and develop strong working relationships with colleagues using highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Apply BCHC Trust policies regarding staff management with fairness and compassion.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • First degree level qualification relevant to the service area.
  • HCPC Licence to practice.
  • Full Membership of a Professional body relevant to the service area.
  • Evidence of recent relevant CPD activities in the specialist area.
  • Relevant training in clinical leadership.

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in multi-disciplinary and/or multi-agency teams in Local Authority and Health settings.
  • Extensive experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with developmental disorders and delays.
  • Significant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes.
  • Relevant experience of using leadership skills for service development.
  • Significant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals.

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of the national and political agenda influencing health services and specific service area.
  • Competent in using electronic systems relevant to practice in the Trust and in the clinical area.
