Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a remarkable opportunity for a dedicated, innovative, and passionate senior clinical pharmacist to become a vital part of our Clinical Pharmacy team.

Role: Band 8b - Lead Pharmacist for Surgical Services

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be tasked with:

  • Overseeing the provision, advancement, and assessment of superior clinical pharmacy services tailored to Surgical departments, including the Elective Hub and Pre-operative Assessment Clinics throughout the organization.
  • Offering specialized guidance on pharmaceutical issues, managing risks, and ensuring adherence to medication regulations.
  • Promoting and facilitating the optimization of medication use, ensuring both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leading and nurturing the team members within the Surgical Pharmacy unit and the Lead Pharmacist for Women Services.

Job Responsibilities

The Pharmacy department at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust operates across two locations and comprises over 100 professionals, with the primary Pharmacy unit situated at Watford General Hospital.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • MPharm (or an equivalent international qualification).
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Certificate in Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
  • MSc/Diploma in Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
  • Management Training.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Management Qualification.
  • Registered independent Non-Medical Prescriber.

Required Knowledge

Essential Knowledge

  • Prescription Monitoring.
  • Proficient in Computer and IT applications.
  • Understanding of Confidentiality protocols.
  • Well-rounded therapeutic and clinical pharmacy expertise in relevant areas.
  • Current awareness of national pharmacy developments.
  • Skills in critical appraisal.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and procedures.
  • Familiarity with NHS organizational structure.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Health & Safety regulations.

Relevant Experience

Essential Experience

  • Post-qualification experience in hospital pharmacy, particularly in the specialty.
  • Recent involvement in delivering clinical pharmacy services to surgical patients and pre-operative assessment clinics.
  • Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Staff management experience.
  • Training of Pre-registration Pharmacists and Junior Staff.
  • Engagement in audit, research, and development activities.

Desirable Experience

  • Project management experience.
  • Staff management experience.
  • Clinical tutoring of postgraduate trainee pharmacists.
