Job Title: SO Accountant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SO Accountant to join our team at Tourism NI. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing financial services, including accounts payable and accounts receivable, and will play a key role in the preparation of the Statutory Annual Report and Accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead in the production of the year-end financial accounts and act as a key point of contact for audit processes.
  • Assist in the production of the year-end Accountability Report in the Annual Report and Accounts.
  • Manage and supervise employees within the financial accounts team and prepare workplans and targets to ensure that financial and corporate objectives are carried out to an acceptable standard.
  • Ensure that all Bank Accounts and Control Accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis for Manager review.
  • Ensure that invoices for all monies due to Tourism NI are raised on a timely basis and that there are effective credit control arrangements in place.
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT return for Manager review.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating accounting policies and procedures and the ongoing development of financial systems.
  • Ensure all accounting procedures are applied correctly.
  • Provide training and support for finance and non-finance employees to ensure that account users have the appropriate training and knowledge of systems, approved policies and procedures.
  • Liaise regularly with the Department for the Economy (DfE) regarding the provision of financial information, monthly cash drawdowns and other returns.
  • Produce accurate and timely financial forecasts, returns and other information as required.
  • Produce monthly financial reports and ad hoc information for the Financial Accounting Manager and the Head of Financial Accounts.
  • Assist in the financial monitoring and control of Grants and other earmarked schemes.

Requirements:

  • Option 1: The Job Holder will have successfully passed the professional examinations of one of the following bodies: Chartered Accountants Ireland (ACA); The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS); The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW); The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA); The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA); The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA); AND The Job Holder will have minimum of 2 years practical experience, preferably in the public sector.
  • Option 2: The Job Holder will be in the final stages of the professional examinations of one of the following bodies: Chartered Accountants Ireland (ACA); The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS); The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW); The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA); The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA); The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA); AND The Job Holder will have minimum of 4 years practical experience, preferably in the public sector.
  • Personal Effectiveness: The Job Holder will also possess a high standard of: Experience of preparing Financial Accounts on a timely basis. Demonstrable experience of leading on team tasks showing the ability to plan and deliver objectives. Effective communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent IT/Computer literacy skills including practical experience in the use of excel spreadsheets and word. Sound organisational and planning skills including the ability to work to strict deadlines, prioritise tasks and attention to detail. The ability to work within a Team environment, on own Initiative and take the lead where necessary including problem solving.
