Job Title: SO Accountant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SO Accountant to join our team at Tourism NI. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing financial services, including accounts payable and accounts receivable, and will play a key role in the preparation of the Statutory Annual Report and Accounts.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead in the production of the year-end financial accounts and act as a key point of contact for audit processes.
  • Assist in the production of the year-end Accountability Report in the Annual Report and Accounts.
  • Manage and supervise employees within the financial accounts team and prepare workplans and targets to ensure that financial and corporate objectives are carried out to an acceptable standard.
  • Ensure that all Bank Accounts and Control Accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis for Manager review.
  • Ensure that invoices for all monies due to Tourism NI are raised on a timely basis and that there are effective credit control arrangements in place.
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT return for Manager review.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating accounting policies and procedures and the ongoing development of financial systems.
  • Ensure all accounting procedures are applied correctly.
  • Provide training and support for finance and non-finance employees to ensure that account users have the appropriate training and knowledge of systems, approved policies and procedures.
  • Liaise regularly with the Department for the Economy (DfE) regarding the provision of financial information, monthly cash drawdowns and other returns.
  • Produce accurate and timely financial forecasts, returns and other information as required.
  • Produce monthly financial reports and ad hoc information for the Financial Accounting Manager and the Head of Financial Accounts.
  • Assist in the financial monitoring and control of Grants and other earmarked schemes.
Employee Management:
  • Support the Unit Manager in recruiting, managing, motivating and developing the team to ensure that key activities are undertaken professionally in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Support the Unit Manager to ensure that all activities are managed in line with Tourism NI policies, procedures, values, and behaviours.
  • Provide Line Management responsibility for employee development within the Financial Accounting Team ensuring motivation, providing coaching and ensuring efficient and effective use of people and their skills.
  • Ensure that learning and development plans are in place.
Additional Duties:
  • Assist in the delivery of project work within the Unit and across Tourism NI including representation at working groups and meetings.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the Annual Unit Operating Plan, the achievement of targets and promote corporate values and behaviours within the Team and across the organisation.
  • Provide cover for Management within the Division to include decision making and attending meetings in their absence.
  • Attend training as and when required and keep abreast of current and projected developments in your area of work.
  • Provide briefing material and draft responses and reports/e-mails as and when required by Tourism NI Executive Leadership Team/the Board/Employees, the Department, the Northern Ireland Assembly and members of the tourism industry/public within the specified timelines, in an appropriate and professional format.
  • Maintain, store and dispose of records in accordance with Tourism NI's information governance policy including the use of record management systems including Microsoft Teams, Dynamics 365 and SharePoint.
