Thorn Baker Construction is seeking a dedicated Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSEQ) professional to join our team as a Health and Safety Manager. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of our workforce across multiple construction sites in Birmingham & West Midlands.

As a key member of our operations team, you will collaborate closely with site management teams and client safety representatives to implement and maintain robust HSEQ initiatives. Your responsibilities will encompass promoting a culture of safety, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with both internal and external stakeholders, including client safety teams and the H&S department.
  • Lead and manage a dedicated SHEQ team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure consistent implementation of HSEQ protocols.
  • Conduct regular site-based H&S meetings, fostering open dialogue and collaboration among site personnel.
  • Actively participate in client safety meetings, representing Thorn Baker Construction's commitment to excellence in health and safety.
  • Provide comprehensive support to site teams on all aspects of health and safety, addressing concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Continuously review and enhance safe systems of work, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.
  • Conduct thorough workplace inspections and investigations, ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Oversee on-site occupational health programs, promoting employee well-being and preventing work-related injuries.
  • Coordinate project staff training programs, ensuring all personnel receive the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties safely.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of ISO 45001 certification, upholding the highest standards of health and safety management.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a site-based H&S role within the construction industry.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices relevant to construction operations.
  • Proficiency in IT applications and report writing, ensuring accurate documentation and communication.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Health and Safety Management.
  • Experience working within a main contracting environment.
