Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized commercial guidance to the Vice Presidents of Major Projects and Asset Management, along with their operational teams.
  • Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other functional leaders, including finance, digital, procurement, risk management, and operations.
  • Share accountability with Operations for the preparation and delivery of monthly Cost Value Reports (CVRs), budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting, ensuring transparency and avoiding unexpected outcomes.
  • Analyze ongoing contract performance to identify opportunities for enhancing revenue and margin returns.
  • Support initiatives for commercial improvement and strategies for contract recovery.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Commercial Improvement to establish clear recovery plans for contracts identified as needing special measures, ensuring key actions are identified and implemented.
  • Assist in the winning work process and the development of commercial models in emerging markets, targeting new customers and innovative products or services.
  • Ensure that all new projects are secured in compliance with company protocols.
  • Contribute valuable insights into the evaluation and enhancement of tenders and estimates.
  • Lead negotiations of complex contract terms to successful conclusions, adhering to company policies.
  • Maintain a network of professional relationships with key strategic clients.
  • Oversee the commercial management of technical suppliers and subcontractors in accordance with relevant contracts.
  • Provide support for any legal matters involving clients or the supply chain.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of post-graduate experience in a construction main contractor environment, with at least 5 years in a senior commercial management role.
  • Preferred experience in mechanical scopes within the process, carbon capture, or power generation sectors; a major civils background will also be considered.
  • Proven experience in managing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts throughout their lifecycle.
  • A successful track record of achieving sustainable gross margin returns across a diverse portfolio of projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial and contract management practices, standards, systems, and processes.
  • Ability to effectively manage challenging commercial negotiations while fostering positive customer relationships.
  • Skill in delicately handling complex contractual relationships and disputes, aiming for dispute avoidance whenever possible.
  • Experience in managing or supporting legal disputes with clients and suppliers, while maintaining relations where feasible.
  • Understanding of the key drivers for successful contract delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of standard form contracts and contract law.
  • Experience in applying continuous improvement principles within change management programs.
  • Experience in leading a commercial team, including Quantity Surveyors, Commercial Managers, and Cost Engineers; experience managing a geographically diverse portfolio is preferable but not mandatory.
