Position Overview

The role involves supporting the delivery of a highly efficient and responsive maintenance service within the Estates Department, specifically focused on mechanical systems at the healthcare facility.

Working autonomously, the engineer will perform maintenance, repairs, and replacements on mechanical service systems, equipment, and plant.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues related to malfunctioning air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Conducting both reactive and preventative maintenance on air conditioning and air handling units.
  • Performing inspections and necessary remedial actions in plant rooms to ensure operational integrity of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Executing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to extend the lifespan of equipment.
  • Documenting maintenance activities using a designated software system.

Main Responsibilities

The engineer should possess knowledge of:
  • Steam and condensate piping systems, including associated valves and fittings.
  • Air handling units (AHUs), chillers, and air conditioning equipment.
  • Low-pressure hot water systems and calorifiers.
  • Heating systems, including pipework, pumps, and mechanical components.
  • Hot and cold water systems across various settings.
  • Utilizing Building Management Systems (BMS) for environmental control.

Additionally, the engineer will:
  • Collaborate with other trades and work on a diverse range of hospital equipment.
  • Operate with minimal supervision, addressing both immediate repairs and scheduled maintenance tasks.

Position Requirements

Qualifications
  • Completion of a relevant craft apprenticeship.
  • GCSEs (grades A-C) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Demonstrated mechanical skills in previous roles.

Experience
  • Relevant experience in a similar position.

Skills
  • Effective communication skills across all levels.
  • Technical proficiency in mechanical systems.

This position requires a Disclosure & Barring Service Check at the Standard Level.
