The role involves contributing to the delivery of a high-quality, responsive, and adaptable Estates Maintenance service within the healthcare sector. As part of the Estates Department team, you will work autonomously to ensure the upkeep, repair, and replacement of mechanical service systems, plant, and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to malfunctioning air conditioning and heating systems.
- Conduct routine maintenance on air conditioning and air handling units across the organization, focusing on both reactive and preventative measures.
- Perform inspections and necessary remedial actions in plant rooms to maintain the operational integrity of essential mechanical and electrical systems through regular visual assessments.
- Execute both urgent repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of equipment and plant.
- Document all maintenance activities using designated software systems.
Essential Duties
- Understanding of steam and condensate piping systems, including associated valves and fittings.
- Maintenance of air handling units (AHUs), chillers, and other air conditioning equipment.
- Management of steam and low-pressure hot water systems.
- Knowledge of heating systems, including pipework, pumps, and mechanical components.
- Maintenance of industrial, commercial, and residential hot and cold water systems.
- Control of environmental conditions utilizing Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Collaborate with various trades to service a wide range of healthcare equipment.
- Operate with minimal oversight while managing both reactive and planned maintenance tasks.

Candidate Requirements
- Completion of a relevant craft apprenticeship.
- GCSEs (grades A-C) or equivalent qualifications.
- Proven mechanical skills demonstrated in previous roles.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.
- Experience in air conditioning systems.
- Familiarity with healthcare environments.
- Relevant mechanical HVAC certifications.
