The Sustainable Investment Analyst position is designed to enhance and execute critical sustainable investment initiatives within the Pensions Board, ensuring the Board's status as a recognized authority in sustainable investment practices. This role will emphasize climate and environmental matters, with the analyst expected to fulfill the essential responsibilities outlined below: including assisting with reporting, engagement, proxy voting, monitoring and screening, project management, and facilitating the presentation of the Board's initiatives to both internal and external stakeholders.

About the Organization

The Church of England Pensions Board serves as a statutory entity responsible for managing four pension schemes, which encompass defined benefit (final salary, hybrid, and CARE) as well as defined contribution plans. The investment division oversees approximately £3.2 billion in a diversified asset portfolio, catering to over 41,000 members, pensioners, and beneficiaries.

Key Responsibilities

This position entails:

  • Research: Conducting analytical research on sustainable investment themes pertinent to climate and environmental issues, collaborating closely with the investment team, particularly responsible investment experts, to support the Board's stewardship strategy.
  • Engagement and Communication: Assisting in the Board's climate and environmental engagement efforts, including thematic and company-specific analysis, and preparing communication materials.
  • Proxy Voting and Screening: Aiding in the execution of the Board's proxy voting processes, documenting vote rationales for instances where votes oppose management, and supporting the reporting of voting patterns to both internal and external audiences.
  • Reporting: Monitoring and documenting the Board's stewardship activities to comply with regulations, internal standards, and various external commitments.
  • Project Management: Coordinating the planning and project management efforts of the climate and responsible investment team.
Candidate Profile

The Church of England aims to reflect the diversity of the communities it serves across the nation. Therefore, while we welcome applications from all interested and suitably qualified individuals, we particularly encourage candidates from UK Minoritised Ethnicities (UKME)/Global Majority Heritage (GMH) and other under-represented groups. As a Disability Confident employer, we are dedicated to recruiting individuals with disabilities and offer interviews to those who meet the minimum criteria for the role.

  • A collaborative mindset to work effectively within a team and tackle challenges.
  • A genuine interest in climate change and environmental issues, including nature and biodiversity.
