This full-time role (10 Programmed Activities) offers extensive psychiatric services for individuals registered with general practitioners in the Greenock, Port Glasgow, and Kilmacolm regions, primarily focusing on the eastern sector of Inverclyde. The selected candidate will manage both outpatient and inpatient care for patients in this locality.

The demographic of patients over 65 years old is approximately 16,400. Inpatient facilities are located at the Larkfield Unit, part of the Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Continuing Care accommodations are situated at the Orchard View Unit on the grounds of the hospital. An Old Age Psychiatry Liaison team, consisting of three nursing professionals and a consultant, is in place to provide support for patients over 65 within the Inverclyde Royal Hospital and local care facilities. The community team operates from both the Inverclyde Royal and Crown House in Greenock, with a total of three full-time Old Age Psychiatrists serving the Inverclyde area.

Candidates must possess full GMC Registration, a valid license to practice, and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those who have completed training in the UK should provide evidence of higher specialist training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of confirmed entry from the interview date. Doctors pursuing the CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) pathway may only apply for a permanent consultant position once the CESR is granted. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training qualifications.

This position is offered as a full-time role on a 10 PA basis, although applications from individuals seeking part-time opportunities will be considered. Up to two additional Programmed Activities may be available for extra outpatient and/or procedural sessions or management responsibilities.

Newly appointed Consultants will initially receive a minimum of one Core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA), which encompasses Continuing Professional Development (CPD), audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning, and management meetings. This arrangement will be reviewed within six months (or sooner if necessary) of the appointment and may be adjusted upwards if additional responsibilities are agreed upon.
