Renal Nurse Specialist

The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to renal patients attending clinic reviews and day-case procedures. They will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to assess patients' care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care without supervision.
Main Duties- Deliver safe, competent, and compassionate care to renal patients attending clinic reviews and day-case procedures
- Undertake haemodialysis for patients with end-stage kidney disease
- Work unsupervised as an effective, flexible team player
- Deputise in the absence of senior staff to ensure continuity of care for patients attending the Renal Outpatients department
- Run and support a variety of medical and nurse-led clinics
- Assess patients holistically and refer to the multidisciplinary or community teams as required
- Delegate appropriately and act as an effective and professional role model within the nursing team

Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will have:
- NMC Registered Nurse
- First Degree
- Competent in phlebotomy and venepuncture skills
- Competent in Cannulation skills
- Competent in IV therapy
- Basic IT skills
- Awareness and knowledge of General Nephrology
- Experience of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable criteria include:
- Experience as a S/N within a renal setting
- Haemodialysis and/or peritoneal skills
- Care of a patient on transplant waiting list and follow-up care post-transplant
- Understanding of treatment for renal anaemia
- Knowledge of Renal CV5 database
- Understanding of treatment for non-transplant immunosuppression
