About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Geriatrician to join our team at Swansea Bay University Health Board. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to older patients with complex medical needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the frailty specific intake and SDEC specific frailty service (OPAS) in a rotational basis, assessing older people admitted to the Acute Frailty Unit and caring for patients based on the acute frailty short stay unit.
  • Participate in running the single point of access integrated hub, overseeing and directing community services to avoid medical admission where possible.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of geriatric medical care provision, working closely with consultant colleagues and the multi-professional team.
  • Be responsible for the well-being of all patients under your care, allowing for proper delegation to and training of staff.
Requirements
  • On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Geriatric Medicine and general internal medicine or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview.
  • PhD, MD, MSc or teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education.
  • Evidence of teaching and training of post/graduate clinical staff.
  • Development and commissioning of services.
  • Experience of research in geriatric medicine/general internal medicine.
