Position Overview

The Department for Work and Pensions is seeking exceptional Senior DevOps Engineers to play a pivotal role in enhancing digital services for the UK Government.

We are in search of motivated and enthusiastic Senior DevOps Engineers who are eager to join teams that deliver meaningful support to individuals during challenging times.

In this capacity, you will serve as a leader in DevOps, taking on line management responsibilities for a team of DevOps Engineers. Your role will involve guiding existing engineers while enhancing capabilities, standards, and practices throughout the organization.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will actively contribute to our community, ensuring that the Department for Work and Pensions and our DevOps methodologies evolve in alignment with technological advancements.

We currently have two openings within the Health and Disability team and the Appeals & Supporting Capabilities division.

Our development teams at DWP Digital - Health & Disability are dedicated to creating solutions that facilitate timely, accurate, and comprehensible decisions for 16 million individuals in the UK who are affected by health conditions or disabilities, ensuring they receive the necessary support.

The Cloud Infrastructure team within Health and Disability operates as a central platform and enabling team, specializing in the development and maintenance of an application platform and an Azure data & analytics platform. This is essential for meeting the evolving needs of our Health & Disability services and users, allowing individual development teams to focus on creating scalable and reliable products.

We are looking for skilled Senior DevOps Engineers to design, build, and maintain our Azure-hosted services across Appeals & Supporting Capabilities. This encompasses services related to Retirement, Bereavement, and Care, aimed at supporting the most vulnerable members of society.

This role presents a unique opportunity to join the Appeals & Supporting Capabilities team at DWP Digital, contributing to initiatives that provide genuine assistance to individuals facing difficult circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will leverage modern tools to develop CI/CD pipelines and DevOps toolchains, with a strong emphasis on automation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing solutions that are highly available, resilient, scalable, extensible, and maintainable within Azure cloud environments.
  • Promoting a culture of engineering ownership and emphasizing the integrity and maintenance of the services we provide.
  • Collaborating with product-focused teams to gather requirements, evaluate tools, implement or update solutions, provision environments, and assist with operational challenges.

Qualifications

When detailing your experience in your CV, please highlight your qualifications in relation to the following essential criteria:

  • Proven experience in developing and supporting Azure cloud-based applications.
  • Strong knowledge of writing and maintaining Infrastructure and Configuration as Code.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux/Windows in a support and/or development environment, including proficiency in scripting languages.
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment, including Continuous Integration & Deployment methodologies and agile scrum practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in supporting, guiding, and developing engineers across multidisciplinary teams in an agile setting.

Salary Information

The salary for this position ranges from a specified minimum to a specified maximum. Exceptional candidates may be eligible for a Digital Allowance based on an assessment of skills and experience.
