About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team at the Department for Work and Pensions. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the production of software solutions of the highest quality, utilizing modern JavaScript technologies, frameworks, and design principles.
  • Develop and maintain cloud-based applications, leveraging expertise in AWS and Azure.
  • Design and implement APIs, RESTful services, and Microservice Architectures to support our digital transformation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive delivery, ensure standards, and build a supportive and collaborative culture.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, promoting software engineering practices and TDD.
  • Contribute to the development of automated test suites to support continuous deployment environments.
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge and extensive experience of modern JavaScript technologies, frameworks, and design principles.
  • Extensive experience of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services, and Microservice Architectures.
  • Expert knowledge and extensive experience of developing on cloud-based environments like AWS and Azure.
  • Knowledge and experience of SQL and NoSQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL, and MongoDB.
  • Experience and skills required to build up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment.
  • Experience of leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, communicating with stakeholders, driving delivery, ensuring standards, ways of working, and building a supportive and collaborative culture.
