The Opportunity

Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is a leading provider of diagnostic testing solutions, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry-leading technologies to support diagnostic testing that provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions.

As an Occupational Health Advisor, you will be based in our medical centres in Liverpool, Crewe, or Manchester with occasional days on customer sites, depending on business needs. The Occupational Health Advisor will be responsible for delivering a full range of Occupational Health duties, including case management, safety-critical medicals, train driver medical assessments, health surveillance, and wellbeing services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in conjunction with customers to provide support, advice, and guidance to managers and employees on sickness absence, workplace environment, health surveillance, stress management, and return to work following absence.
  • Conduct health surveillance and medical assessments, including network rail and safety-critical medicals, as a lone worker.
  • Provide advice to managers and HR on staff who are incapable of undertaking their normal duties and responsibilities, while working within customer policies.
  • Offer advice and support to managers and supervisors on risk assessments related to health matters affecting staff.
  • Maintain knowledge of up-to-date legislation and best practices related to Occupational Health issues.
  • Collaborate with head office to increase utilization of the service in the described area, based on client demand.
  • Participate in network learning opportunities, undertake updates on clinical improvements, and actively complete performance-related clinical goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Occupational Health, with evidence of continual professional development, and ideally be on Part 3 of the NMC Register.
  • A qualification in Hand Arm Vibration and experience of collecting samples for drug and alcohol testing using chain of custody protocols is desirable.
  • The ability to carry out medicals and surveillance, including audiometry, spirometry, skin assessment, HAVS, and safety-critical medicals.
  • Experience in the Rail industry to undertake Train Driver Medicals with additional in-house training.
  • The ability to conduct case management assessments face-to-face and remotely.
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with HR, Health & Safety professionals, and occupational health partners.
  • Ability to identify key health issues and assist in the development and provision of procedures and solutions.
  • Ability to travel between sites, with business insurance.
  • Competence in the use of computers, including Microsoft and Excel software.
