Job Summary

The East Lancashire Alliance is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care by working closely with our clinical pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.

Main Duties

As a Pharmacy Technician, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking patient-facing and patient-supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
  • Carrying out medicines optimisation tasks, including effective medicine administration, supporting medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation.
  • Utilising consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively.
  • Supporting medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home patients and synchronising medicines for patient transfers between care settings, linking with local community pharmacies.
  • Providing expertise to address both public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling local health inequalities.
  • Managing shared care protocols and liaising with Clinical Pharmacists for more complex patients.
  • Supporting initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing locally.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Professional registration with the GPhC.
  • Meets the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community, or hospital pharmacy.
  • Computer literacy with an ability to use Microsoft office packages.
  • Able to analyse and interpret prescribing data.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to adjust communication style and content to suit the audience.
