Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in the Defence industry. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality design solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Development: Lead the design and development of complex electromechanical mechanisms and precision machinery, utilizing your expertise in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
  • Technical Leadership: Act as the technical lead within a small, mixed-discipline project design team, ensuring that design solutions are delivered within cost, time, and quality constraints.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to perform classical engineering analysis on designs, including stress, fatigue, and vibration, using both conventional methods and computer simulations.
  • Testing and Validation: Conduct lab testing to verify and ensure that design outputs meet the required design inputs.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Lead and develop engineering reports to support new product designs, failure investigations, and other formal documentation to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Integration and Support: Work closely with wider engineering teams to integrate electronic, control, and drive systems into equipment designs, and provide support for production, testing, and field engineering teams.
  • Project Management: Work alongside project managers and sales teams to provide time estimates for design activities and track progress.
  • Proposal and Quotation Support: Assist the Sales Team in preparing proposals, quotations, and sales literature.
  • Project Delivery: Take responsibility for the timely delivery of project outputs within defined deadlines.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Proven experience in designing complex mechanisms and structures, with a strong background in 3D CAD systems (ideally SolidWorks).
  • Skills: Expertise in analyzing loads and designing solutions for drive mechanisms and motor systems, with a strong understanding of machining, casting, fabrication, and moulding techniques.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead a project design team, manage workload, and oversee design outputs.
  • Education: Degree educated in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Personal Attributes: A flair for innovation, new concept designs, and a passion for mechanical engineering, with effective communication skills and strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
