Position Overview
In response to the growing demand for our healthcare services, we are expanding our team to ensure the continued delivery of exceptional patient care. An exciting opportunity has emerged for a dedicated Surgical Care Support Specialist to join our day surgery team on a permanent, part-time basis, with flexible hours available.
Our Day Surgery Unit is a dynamic environment featuring an operating theatre, anaesthetic room, and recovery areas for first and second-stage patients.
The primary responsibility of the role is to assist in providing care for patients attending the day surgical unit. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a clinical lead, who will be either a registered nurse or an operating department practitioner (ODP). This role requires a commitment to delivering care in a professional, patient-centered manner.

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are advantageous as comprehensive training will be provided:
- Experience in a healthcare assistant or similar role.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in care or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in skills such as phlebotomy, ECG monitoring, and patient observation.
We offer flexible working hours, with a competitive hourly pay rate. This position is classified as Grade O (equivalent to NHS Band 2). Job Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the role is to assist staff in providing care for patients attending the day surgical unit or outpatient services. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of a clinical lead, either a registered nurse or an ODP.
The role involves being an ambassador for our organization, delivering care efficiently and professionally.
Our outpatient department serves a variety of medical and surgical specialties, and the Surgical Care Support Specialist will be required to work across these areas.
Principal Duties:
- Welcome patients and their families as they arrive for appointments or procedures, helping them acclimate to the environment.
- Assist nursing staff within the day surgical unit or outpatient services.
- Support the multi-disciplinary team in assessing patient needs.
- Contribute to the delivery of care as outlined in the patient's care plan, reporting any changes in condition to the supervising nurse.
- Perform care in accordance with established standards.
- Develop skills in carrying out delegated duties related to the physical and psychological needs of patients under supervision.

Experience
Essential:
- Ability to work under direction and as part of a team.
- Effective workload prioritization.
- Ensure accessibility of relevant information for team members.
- Understanding of stock management principles.
- Self-motivation and initiative.
Desirable:
- Experience in care monitoring and evaluation.
- Ability to accurately record basic observations.
- Experience in ECG recordings and sample collection.
Flexibility
Essential:
- Willingness to provide support during staff absences.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Good basic education.
- Demonstrated transferable skills relevant to healthcare.
- NVQ Level 2 or relevant experience.
- Willingness to pursue NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health Care or equivalent.
- ECDL certification.
- Phlebotomy skills.
Communication Skills
Essential:
- Ability to express a caring attitude.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Document patient progress accurately.
- Participate in team meetings.
