Role Overview

We are seeking a Director of Human Rights & Sustainability to lead our team in the EMEA region. This pivotal role will be responsible for steering Control Risks' Human Rights and Sustainability initiatives across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in sustainability and human rights to advise clients effectively. Key responsibilities include client prospecting, managing consultancy projects, and providing training and capacity-building support, as well as conducting human rights due diligence and risk assessments.

The successful candidate will be expected to operate from either London or Dubai, with a commitment to hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Regular office attendance and a willingness to travel are essential, along with a strong ability to collaborate and communicate across various departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expertise in Human Rights and Sustainability: Maintain a high level of knowledge on global trends and best practices in human rights and sustainability. Provide updates to both internal teams and clients on significant developments. Represent Control Risks at industry conferences and contribute to publications on relevant topics.
  • Client Engagement Management: Independently prepare proposals and reports for consulting projects, ensuring high-quality standards. Lead the execution of client projects focused on human rights and sustainability across diverse sectors and regions, collaborating closely with local experts.
  • Business Development: Actively seek to establish new client relationships through strategic business development efforts. Build strong partnerships with clients through exceptional project delivery and contribute to global and regional marketing initiatives.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Oversee and nurture a team of specialists in human rights and sustainability. Set clear objectives for team members at various levels and foster an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

Essential Qualifications

  • Extensive experience advising businesses on sustainability and human rights issues, including modern slavery and labor conditions.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality advice and reports in consulting or in-house roles.
  • Familiarity with UN Guiding Principles and ILO conventions, alongside a strong understanding of labor rights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel within the EMEA region for short assignments.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in developing human rights policies and conducting due diligence.
  • Proven success in business development and managing client relationships.
  • Experience in leading small teams or projects.
  • Proficiency in languages spoken within the EMEA region.

Career Level: Band C.
