Role Overview

The primary objective of this position is to oversee, guide, and manage all operational activities related to aggregates within a specified geographical area of the Heidelberg Materials Aggregates Division. This entails achieving established safety, environmental, financial, and operational performance targets while continuously striving to enhance existing performance metrics and identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies and growth.

Core Responsibilities

The key focus of this role includes leading and managing a regional operational team to meet performance goals across several critical areas:

  • Health and Safety: Uphold the highest standards of health and safety in accordance with Heidelberg Materials's Integrated Management System, implementing a continuous improvement strategy.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Ensure compliance with environmental objectives as per Heidelberg Materials's Integrated Management System, promoting ongoing enhancements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Guarantee adherence to all statutory regulations and company policies in all operational endeavors.
  • Operational Efficiency: Strive for optimal production levels aligned with commercial activities while minimizing operational costs. Continuously seek improvements to enhance production efficiency.
  • Logistics Optimization: Collaborate with logistics and commercial teams to ensure supply from the most cost-effective sources for both internal and external customers.
  • Customer Service: Work with logistics to establish operational procedures that maximize customer service levels at the most efficient cost.
  • Quality Assurance: Partner with technical teams to ensure operational processes achieve the highest quality standards while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Business Intelligence: Ensure the accuracy and relevance of regional operational management information to support business management and identify profit-enhancing opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning: Develop a comprehensive five-year operational plan in alignment with the national business strategy, integrating all business aspects (sales, distribution, capital expenditure, SHE management).
  • Resource Management: Ensure the operational team is well-resourced and that personnel receive adequate training and development. Maintain necessary assets to achieve business objectives and facilitate personnel progression.
  • Production Strategy: Optimize production and productivity to align with sales forecasts.
  • Investment Management: Assess, prepare, and submit proposals for capital investment projects.
  • Leadership: Provide direction to the area team, ensuring clarity in operational goals and fostering proactive personnel development.
  • Operational Control: Implement effective operational control mechanisms covering all relevant aspects, including health and safety, environmental controls, capital expenditure management, and revenue spending controls.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the operations team, ensuring understanding of CI targets and encouraging the generation of new projects.
  • Global Performance Indicators: Ensure the provision of data for generating Heidelberg Cement Global KPIs and utilize benchmarking data to inform capital expenditure or management practices for business enhancements.
