Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

The Audit and Research Operations Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enhancing and facilitating the execution of high-caliber Audit and Research and Development initiatives within the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This position ensures that all audit and research activities adhere strictly to the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, alongside other regulatory requirements.

The individual in this role will collaborate closely with the Head of Audit and Research & Development, as well as the Research Governance, Audit, and Contracts Manager, to advance the Trust's Audit and R&D Strategy, in alignment with national Research Governance policies and procedures. Responsibilities include providing comprehensive research management support for both NIHR portfolio and non-portfolio studies.

This role involves engaging with personnel from various disciplines, both within the Trust (including research tissue bank applications and internally sponsored studies) and externally (such as other Trusts, commercial entities, and research support networks), to ensure the safe, ethical, and lawful approval of research projects. Additionally, the coordinator will utilize the EDGE research database to guarantee that all project-related data is accurately and promptly recorded.

The position requires the preparation of analytical reports for presentation at Audit governance meetings.

Key Responsibilities

To generate analytical reports for clinical audits and NICE guidance. To assist researchers in formulating and drafting research protocols suitable for regulatory approval. To facilitate the internal peer review process for research protocols. To verify the completeness of Research Tissue Bank (RTB) applications and circulate them for internal peer review. To compile individual feedback from the peer review and coordinate with the Head of R&D / Clinical Director for R&D when issuing approval letters. To review NIHR portfolios for potential studies. To register new studies on the R&D database and/or EDGE. To assist in generating reports from the EDGE database to inform the department about study performance, identifying areas of success and improvement. To manage and facilitate the AMaT Ward and Area reports monthly, collaborating with the head of nursing to pinpoint areas of concern based on audit findings. To ensure all new research projects (and study amendments) are registered on the Research & Development Database, maintaining up-to-date records throughout the research project's duration. To work with local investigators and/or research teams to complete Local Information Pack documents as necessary. To serve as a proactive and positive role model for junior staff members. To contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the role, enabling others to act in the absence of the post holder.
