Position Overview

JOB TITLE: Lead Engineer for Virtualization Solutions

SALARY: £86,964 - £102,310

LOCATION: Flexible within the UK

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid model, requiring presence in the office at least two days per week.

About the Role

As a key member of the Modern Workplace Technology team, the Lead Engineer for Virtualization Solutions will oversee the vision, strategy, engineering, and operational support for the organization’s Virtual Desktop and Virtual Application services.

This senior leadership position combines extensive technical knowledge with a strong commitment to mentoring and developing team members in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide the team to ensure they receive adequate training in methodologies and comprehend their roles within the organization.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues across the organization, taking charge of personal and team development while actively seeking and providing constructive feedback.
  • Formulate and execute a strategic plan for specific responsibilities while managing team members effectively.
  • Establish objectives and oversee the implementation of performance management systems with support from senior leadership.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Overseeing the development, delivery, and continuous enhancement of Azure Virtual Desktop products.
  • Ensuring that Azure Virtual Desktop offerings align with the organization’s experience, performance, security, and scalability requirements.
  • Advocating for a DevOps/SRE methodology, engineering products, and promoting an automation-first approach through Infrastructure as Code principles.
  • Contributing to the formulation of roadmaps and strategies for technologies, tools, and architectures.
  • Managing the definition, prioritization, and delivery of the virtualization product backlog.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, including Product Owners and business lines, to ensure alignment with IT and business strategies.
  • Ensuring that the delivery organization is adequately resourced and that all teams are trained in relevant methodologies.
  • Partnering with Compliance, Legal, and Cybersecurity teams to ensure adherence to regulatory frameworks.
  • Monitoring supplier performance to ensure service levels are met while reporting to senior management.
  • Developing innovative solutions by synthesizing and analyzing diverse information sources.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in Infrastructure Engineering and Operations, particularly with M365, Device Management, and Virtualization Technologies, including Azure Virtual Desktops.
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure Automation, including Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • A passion for enhancing customer experiences through technology.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities.

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with Security and Compliance requirements in regulated environments.
  • Experience with Architecture Design documentation and Governance.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for Azure administration and automation.
  • Knowledge of Bicep or ARM templates for Azure resource management.
  • Solid understanding of networking, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
