We are seeking a highly motivated and data-driven Data Architect Lead to join our Data Enablement team. This role is pivotal in shaping and implementing the data architecture vision across the research landscape, accelerating early and preclinical pharmaceutical research.

About the Role

As a key member of the Data Enablement team, you will collaborate with diverse teams within research and beyond to maximize the value extracted from data. Your responsibilities encompass defining and executing the data strategy, improving data readiness and reuse, implementing robust data management practices, ensuring proper data governance, and fostering data literacy across research teams.

Your Impact
  • Define a comprehensive data architecture strategy for critical data types, including omics data.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of external data management systems and vendors, leading proof-of-concept projects to evaluate their suitability.
  • Manage the ingestion of data from external sources to develop and maintain robust data repositories.
  • Provide essential data foundations and repositories to empower the data science community in developing innovative data products.
  • Lead specific data initiatives as a project manager, ensuring successful execution and delivery.
  • Develop and implement computational strategies to accelerate research activities and drive scientific breakthroughs.
  • Establish and enforce data governance practices across the entire data landscape, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Communicate effectively at data, digital, and leadership forums, sharing insights and promoting data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify data challenges and opportunities for improvement, maximizing data utilization and reuse.
  • Work closely with Data Leaders across all functions, particularly the UCB Data Office and IT teams, to facilitate cross-functional data initiatives and drive organizational alignment.
Your Profile

We are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in life sciences and data architecture.

  • Bachelor's degree (PhD preferred) in natural sciences, computer science, or engineering with proven experience in computational biology/chemistry, statistics, informatics, or mathematics within the life sciences sector.
  • 5+ years of experience in a research IT/Informatics role, demonstrating expertise in data management and analysis within a research environment.
  • Deep biological domain knowledge relevant to therapeutic discovery, with a strong understanding of the data types generated and utilized in early and preclinical research across various modalities (NCE, NBE, GT).
  • Extensive experience in large data curation, integration, and management, including both commercial and open-source datasets.
  • Expertise in ontology, reference data, and metadata management within the context of life science/research data types.
  • Experience managing or supporting R&D data management systems such as DNA Nexus.
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages (R, Python) and scientific computing environments and tools (Rstudio, Jupyter, Scikit-learn, Spotfire).
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively within diverse teams.
