Opportunities for Growth: Whether you are a newly qualified Orthoptist or possess prior experience, we welcome applications from all levels. New or recent graduates will commence as Band 5 and progress to Band 6 through our preceptorship program, which lasts a minimum of 12 months.
Shortlisted candidates are encouraged to visit the Department with travel expenses reimbursed for the day of the interview, and interviews can be conducted via Teams if more convenient.
Key Responsibilities
Orthoptic clinics will encompass both adult and pediatric Orthoptic-only clinics, as well as regular joint Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, Neuro-Ophthalmology, and refraction clinics.
In addition to these clinics, the successful candidate will participate in community, specialist thyroid, and stroke clinics, depending on their experience. The Orthoptic team also supports the Acute Referral (Emergency Eye) clinics as needed.
The department is highly supportive of further extended scope work, including pre and post-operative cataract assessments, AMD clinics (including IVT/injections), etc. We are eager to broaden our range of extended roles. A willingness to undertake such roles (with training) would be advantageous.
The department frequently engages in the training of Pre-registration Optometrists, junior doctors, and other staff groups, so an interest in or experience as a clinical educator would be beneficial.
