Supported by a prominent deeptech accelerator, our founding team comprises experienced biochemists and biochemical engineers who have successfully launched leading ventures in the biotech and food technology sectors.
The Role:
We are on the lookout for a skilled Plant-Based Protein Research Scientist to become our inaugural scientific team member. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with the founding team and expert advisors to shape and implement our research strategy. As a foundational employee, your contributions will be vital in developing our initial product and establishing our research and development framework. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a significant role in advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
This is a hands-on laboratory position that requires a creative thinker with deep expertise in protein science. The role is full-time.
Key Qualifications:
- PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Food Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- In-depth knowledge of plant protein chemistry and methods to modify protein structure and interactions, including ionic modulation, solvent extraction, enzymatic treatment, and fermentation techniques.
- Experience in developing and interpreting data from bioanalytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS/MS, and GC-MS.
- Proficiency in protein purification methods (filtration, flocculation) and subsequent characterization techniques (SDS-PAGE, ELISA, mass spectrometry, etc.).
- Ability to work autonomously and innovate methods while staying informed about the latest advancements to enhance processes and protocols.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential for effective collaboration within a small team.
- Ability to present and document findings clearly and accurately, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Mentor colleagues, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Ensure a productive and safe laboratory environment by developing and updating standard operating procedures and risk assessments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in flavor chemistry is highly advantageous.
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience in purifying, isolating, and characterizing food proteins, particularly from plant sources.
- Knowledge of microbiology and solid-state fermentation.
- Experience in enzyme characterization and biocatalysis optimization.
- Hands-on experience with waste feedstocks or agricultural byproducts.
- Familiarity with analyzing waste feedstocks is a plus.
