Job Summary

The Deputy Medical Director will provide clinical leadership in research and innovation, ensuring the Trust's approach enables it to be positioned advantageously in relation to NHS priorities. The post holder will lead the Management Team to provide Trust-wide clinical leadership for research, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness, participation, and multi-professional engagement with high-quality clinical research across the organisation.

About the Role

The Deputy Medical Director will be accountable for the clinical leadership in relation to research and innovation in the Trust. The post holder will lead the development and coordination of the Trust's Research Strategy, ensuring that the Trust's approach enables it to be positioned advantageously in relation to NHS priorities, securing sufficient funding to enable the Trust to support research at levels required to deliver its ambition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Management Team to provide Trust-wide clinical leadership for research
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness, participation, and multi-professional engagement with high-quality clinical research across the organisation
  • Develop and coordinate the Trust's Research Strategy, ensuring that the Trust's approach enables it to be positioned advantageously in relation to NHS priorities
  • Secure sufficient funding to enable the Trust to support research at levels required to deliver its ambition
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC registration
  • Consultant or SAS post for 5 years
  • Credible track record of undertaking and securing funding for clinical research
  • Experience of clinical leadership, including lead clinician roles
  • Up-to-date Good Clinical Research Practice (GCP) accreditation
