Job Summary

The Deputy Medical Director will provide clinical leadership in research and innovation, ensuring the Trust's approach enables it to be positioned advantageously in relation to NHS priorities. The post holder will lead the Management Team to provide Trust-wide clinical leadership for research, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness, participation, and multi-professional engagement with high-quality clinical research across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Development and coordination of the Trust's Research Strategy, ensuring the Trust's approach enables it to be positioned advantageously in relation to NHS priorities.
  • Delivery of the bench to bedside concept, enabling rapid translation of leading-edge research into quality patient outcomes.
  • Research governance and ensuring protection of patients and promotion of research consistent with national governance expectations.
Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.

Experience

  • Consultant or SAS post for 5 years.
  • Credible track record of undertaking and securing funding for clinical research.
  • Experience of clinical leadership, Lead Clinician.
  • Evidence of understanding of governance and funding of NHS R&D locally, regionally, and nationally.

Research

  • Up-to-date Good Clinical Research Practice (GCP) accreditation.

Personal Skills

  • Evidence of good communication skills with patients, colleagues, and staff.
  • Evidence of being able to direct and motivate team members.
