Job Overview

In the dynamic realm of technology, few roles are as pivotal as that of a Site Reliability Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the MARKETS ENGINEERING & ARCHITECTURE Team. This position is essential for tackling intricate business challenges with clear and effective solutions. Utilizing code and cloud infrastructure, you will be responsible for configuring, maintaining, monitoring, and enhancing applications along with their corresponding infrastructure, aiming to decompose and iteratively refine existing solutions. Your expertise will significantly contribute to the team's success by sharing insights on end-to-end operations, availability, reliability, and scalability of applications or platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and support in developing appropriate design levels and achieving consensus among peers.
  • Work collaboratively with software engineers and teams to architect and implement deployment strategies through automated continuous integration and delivery pipelines.
  • Engage with other engineers to design, develop, test, and implement solutions that enhance availability, reliability, and scalability in applications.
  • Establish infrastructure, configuration, and network as code for the applications and platforms under your oversight.
  • Collaborate with technical experts and stakeholders to address complex issues effectively.
  • Utilize service level indicators and objectives to proactively mitigate issues before they affect customers.
  • Promote the adoption of site reliability engineering best practices within your team.
  • Lead incident response efforts as a subject matter expert on the High Performance Computing platform, including service restoration, root cause analysis, and implementing preventative measures.
  • Collaborate with client teams to deliver resilient architecture implementations, conducting chaos simulations to validate platform resiliency and reliability enhancements.
  • Review, augment, and optimize telemetry and observability practices in partnership with technical experts and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Formal training or certification in reliability management concepts, coupled with practical experience.
  • Experience in ensuring the reliability of production applications.
  • Strong understanding of site reliability culture and principles, with knowledge of implementation within applications or platforms.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java/Spring Boot, or Command Line Interface in Golang.
  • In-depth knowledge of software applications and technical processes relevant to a specific discipline, including support for public cloud applications.
  • Experience with observability tools, including monitoring, service level objective alerting, and telemetry collection using platforms like Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, and Splunk.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with container technologies and orchestration, including ECS, Kubernetes, and Docker, along with troubleshooting networking technologies.
  • Ability to contribute effectively to large, collaborative teams by presenting information clearly and logically.
  • Experience with Arm-based servers, Terraform, and configuring OpenTelemetry agents and collectors.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong capability to present information logically and compellingly within collaborative teams.
  • Ability to identify and implement new technologies and solutions to meet design constraints.
