Special Educational Needs Support Assistant

Teaching Personnel is in search of a committed and empathetic Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support Assistant to become part of a secondary school recognized for its 'Good' rating by Ofsted. This full-time role is designed to provide essential support to students with special educational needs, ensuring they can thrive in their educational journey.

Position Overview:

As a SEN Support Assistant, your contribution will be crucial in aiding students with special educational needs across various educational settings. Your main focus will be to collaborate closely with these students, facilitating their access to the curriculum, fostering essential skills, and enabling them to reach their maximum potential. You will work alongside educators, SEN Coordinators, and other support personnel to deliver customized assistance tailored to each student's unique requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Support: Offer focused one-on-one support to students with SEN, guiding them through daily activities, assisting with tasks, and clarifying lessons. Your role will be vital in helping these students surmount learning obstacles and gain confidence in their capabilities.
  • Classroom Assistance: Engage within the classroom to help manage SEN students, ensuring they remain actively involved and supported during lessons. This includes aiding with differentiated teaching and modifying resources to cater to individual learning preferences.
  • Small Group Facilitation: Lead or support small group sessions aimed at enhancing social skills, communication, and academic proficiency. These activities will be specifically designed to meet the distinct needs of the participating students.
  • Behavioral Guidance: Assist in addressing any behavioral challenges that may arise, employing strategies that encourage positive behavior and assist students in managing their emotions. Collaboration with the SEN Coordinator and pastoral team will be essential to address ongoing issues.
  • Personal Support: When necessary, provide assistance with personal care requirements, ensuring that all students are treated with dignity and respect. This may involve support with feeding, mobility, or hygiene, based on the student's needs.
  • Collaboration with Educational Staff: Work closely with teachers, SEN Coordinators, and other staff members to track student progress, share insights, and modify support strategies as needed. You will be an integral part of the team dedicated to fostering a nurturing learning environment for all students.
  • Engagement with Families: Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on their child's development and collaborating to support the student's growth both in school and at home.
  • Documentation: Keep precise records of the support provided, including daily logs, progress assessments, and any incidents that occur. You will be responsible for documenting the effectiveness of interventions and contributing to the overall evaluation of student progress.
  • Professional Growth: Engage in training and development opportunities offered by the school and Teaching Personnel. This position presents an excellent chance to gain experience working with SEN students in a secondary school context, with the potential for career advancement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or young individuals with SEN is highly desirable.
  • A background in education, psychology, or a related discipline is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication abilities and the capacity to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a dedication to supporting the educational and personal growth of students with SEN.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to addressing the needs of students.

Benefits:

  • Competitive weekly pay ranging from £419.25 to £500.
  • The opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of students with SEN.
  • Possibility for the role to transition into a permanent position, providing a pathway for career development within the educational institution.
  • Access to professional development and training through Teaching Personnel.

If you are passionate about aiding students with special educational needs and are seeking a fulfilling role within a supportive educational environment, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
