Job Overview

We invite applications for a locum Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist position within the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust. This role is essential for providing Histopathology reporting services in Gynaecological Pathology across our network of hospitals. The recent challenges posed by COVID-19 have enabled our consultant team to adopt flexible working arrangements, which we aim to sustain to ensure a balanced work-life dynamic while maintaining high-quality service delivery. Our department is enhancing its digital capabilities, with initiatives such as large volume slide scanning and remote reporting, paving the way for a more efficient workflow.

Main Responsibilities

The position is located in the cutting-edge Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London hospital. Our Cellular Pathology services are organized along specialized lines, and the successful candidate will be an integral part of our dedicated team, contributing to the high standards of service we provide.

Candidates must possess full GMC registration with a license to practice and be on the GMC's Specialist Register or be within six months of receiving a CCT at the time of the interview.

This is a full-time position, although we welcome applications from those interested in part-time opportunities.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent qualification
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualifications
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice (or eligibility for registration within six months of the interview)
  • UK-trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of receiving it at the time of the interview
  • Non-UK trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Comprehensive training and experience in Histopathology and Cytopathology
  • Proven ability to deliver services independently
  • Strong understanding of medical audit principles
  • Experience in conducting audit projects

Desirable Criteria

  • Participation in management training courses

Skills

Essential Criteria

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in Cellular Pathology
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Understanding of evidence-based practices and a professional approach to work
