Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize IT systems and vehicles for effective allocation of drivers, vehicles, loads, and trailers, ensuring clear communication with both internal and external stakeholders to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Maintain adequate driver staffing levels, including agency personnel, to fulfill customer demands.
  • Oversee driver hours by approving timesheets weekly.
  • Monitor the status of drivers and vehicles to ensure timely collections and deliveries, promptly communicating any delays to customers.
  • Implement service recovery strategies when necessary to mitigate risks to customer collections or deliveries.
  • Facilitate effective communication with all stakeholders, including load sheets for the warehouse and updates on operational delays.
  • Collaborate with team members and engage in cross-training initiatives to ensure seamless coverage during absences.
  • Identify and advocate for continuous improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Uphold high standards of housekeeping and safety, adhering to health and safety regulations to maintain a clean and secure working environment.
  • Ensure clear communication with colleagues and drivers to meet customer KPIs and targets, including conducting driver debriefs and reviewing manifests.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Familiarity with the Highway Code, EU tachograph regulations, Working Time Regulations, and Road Transport Regulations.
  • Understanding of transport operation systems.
  • A logistics qualification is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of geography and health and safety regulations.
  • Relevant experience in transport operations.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve logistical challenges.
