About the Role

Mackie Myers is partnering with a prestigious cultural institution to fill an urgent interim Tax Manager position. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the tax team and overseeing various improvement and automation projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop the VAT and tax team, ensuring they are equipped to handle complex tax matters.
  • Project Management: Rapidly assess and implement improvement and automation projects to streamline tax processes and reduce costs.
  • Return Preparation: Oversee the preparation of time-sensitive returns for key stakeholders, including HMRC, ensuring timely submission and compliance with regulations.
  • Technical Guidance: Deliver expert technical guidance on VAT, PAYE, gift aid, and foreign tax to ensure the organization is compliant with all tax laws and regulations.
  • System Administration: Manage investments and oversee systems administration for the Museum's accounting system, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Urgent Projects: Spearhead urgent projects, including VAT manual development and tax strategy, to ensure the organization is prepared for any tax-related challenges.
  • Compliance: Ensure timely preparation of VAT returns and compliance with HMRC guidance and legislation, minimizing the risk of penalties and fines.
  • Financial Systems: Oversee critical financial systems administration and payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
  • Availability: Must be immediately available or close to starting before the end of the contract period.
  • Qualifications: Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) with tax experience.
  • Experience: Proven track record in handling tax matters, preferably in the cultural or non-profit sector.
  • Skills: Strong Excel skills and proficiency in financial systems.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to explain complex tax rules across the organization.
