As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in supporting the management of family services across our facilities, with a particular focus on casework, visitor centre services, play and children's services, refreshment/catering service, and support for family group work interventions.
About the Role:
- Support to Prisoners and Their Families: Deliver a service ensuring prisoners, their children, carers, and other relatives have access to appropriate advice, guidance, learning opportunities, care, and support to maintain or enhance positive relationships.
- Visitor Centre Services: Manage the Visitors Centre, providing support for visitors before and after visits; ensuring the centre is open and staffed at agreed times, and that accurate and up-to-date information is available.
- Services for Children: Lead and deliver high-quality services that provide a safe and welcoming place for the children of prisoners, ensuring services for children in the Visitors Centre and facilitated play sessions in the visit hall.
- People Management: Provide warm, encouraging, and person-centred management to Family Support Workers, volunteers, and student placements. Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers.
- Operational Planning and Performance Monitoring: Develop and implement the local operational plan for the service, produce and collate statistics, and provide regular reports for senior managers.
- Health and Safety: Promote and manage health, safety, and welfare of volunteers and student placements within the team and service.
- Safeguarding: Promote and implement the safeguarding policy, ensuring concerns are reported in line with the policy.
- Data Protection and Security: Implement data protection and data security policies, ensuring prisoner and family information is held securely.
- Service User Engagement: Engage and involve service users in line with the service user engagement policy and strategy.
- Equal Opportunities and Diversity: Promote diversity and ensure services are available to all service users.
- Prison Security and Procedures: Adhere to prison security and other prison policies, attending appropriate training provided by the prison.
- Financial Management: Contribute to the successful management of the budget with support from the Services Manager/Head of Services Delivery and Development.
- Partnership Working: Be the lead for family services within the prison, attend operational review meetings, stakeholder groups, focus groups and reviews, and work collaboratively with other services.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system and awareness of the impact of custody on prisoners and their children and families.
- Clear understanding of professional boundaries.
- Experience in supporting individuals with multiple and complex needs in a multi-agency environment.
- Experience working in a prison setting and understanding the challenges in delivering a broad family service.
- Good level of numeracy and literacy.
- Excellent advocacy, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a demanding workload.
- Empathy with children and families of prisoners.
- Results-oriented with a can-do attitude.
- Ability to work in a challenging environment and remain calm.
- Commitment to continuous personal development and learning.
