About the Role

NHS Scotland is seeking an experienced Information Governance Specialist to join our team as Deputy Director, Data Protection Officer. This is a key leadership role that will support the Data Protection Officer in ensuring the effective implementation of data protection policies and procedures across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Data Protection Compliance: Act as the primary point of contact for the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) on data protection issues, ensuring compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Collaborate with Information Security Officer: Work closely with the Information Security Officer to manage and investigate reported data protection incidents, and develop information governance and security training materials.
  • Manage Information Governance Team: Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance management of Information Governance and Security administrator/analyst staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to support data protection efforts.
  • Provide Strategic Guidance: Offer strategic guidance on information governance and data protection matters, ensuring that NHS Scotland's policies and procedures are aligned with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Education and Qualifications: A master's level equivalent qualification or professional qualification in data protection and information governance, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Certifications: Hold or be willing to obtain a qualification in Healthcare Information Governance, along with Data Protection certifications such as UK GDPR practitioner or IAPP CIPP/E.
  • Experience and Skills: Extensive experience working in an organization interpreting complex data protection and information handling requirements, with a strong understanding of information technology, information assurance, legislation, and records management.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Salary: A permanent contract on Band 8A (£56,992 - £61,522) Per Annum (pro rata if applicable).
  • Benefits Package: A comprehensive benefits package, including 35 days annual leave (rising to 41) pro-rata, development opportunities, enhanced pay for working public holidays, and enrollment into the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) pension scheme.
