Job Summary

The Deputy Director Data Protection Officer is a key role within the Security and Data Protection Directorate of the Department for Work and Pensions. This position requires a deep understanding of data protection laws and regulations, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance on data protection matters to the Executive Team and Permanent Secretary.
  • Lead a team of Information Rights specialists in conducting data protection impact assessments and monitoring compliance.
  • Develop and implement data protection policies and procedures to ensure compliance with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Collaborate with the Information Commissioner's Office to ensure DWP's data protection practices meet regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the central Information Management Team and Freedom of Information Team to ensure compliance with the Public Records Act and Freedom of Information Act.

Requirements

  • Hold a recognized data protection qualification.
  • Experience in operating within a data protection profession in an organization processing significant personal data.
  • Proven track record of delivering timely quality outcomes and leading a team of Information Rights specialists.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
