Role Overview:
We invite you to become a pivotal member of our team as the Tunnel Operations Lead, where you will oversee a proficient group of Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance Technicians. In this vital position, you will be tasked with guiding your team through their assignments, performing site inspections to guarantee safety, productivity, and efficacy, and managing all facets of personnel oversight for the directly employed workforce.
You will be instrumental in collaborating with a diverse range of internal and external partners, including the Tunnel Maintenance Manager, Tunnel Maintenance Coordinator, Operations & Maintenance Schedulers, Depot Shift Manager, Network & Tunnels Operations Centre, Highways England, and subcontractors. This role presents a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of maintaining and enhancing one of the UK's most critical transport networks, making a significant contribution to the safety and efficiency of our operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Familiarize yourself with the operation of all electrical and mechanical equipment within the Dartford River Crossing, other M25 Tunnels, and M25 pump stations. Champion the delivery of Zero Harm objectives by elevating our awareness of risks, driving risk mitigation efforts, and leading by example to instill a proactive safety culture across Service Delivery and our supply chain. Assist in achieving CPS's Business Plan Objectives in Service Delivery by working towards their PDR objectives and establishing aligned and 'SMART' goals for direct reports. Prepare and present comprehensive work briefings that clearly outline the work methodology, identify onsite hazards and risks, and detail the control measures to be implemented. Ensure all work activities are effectively managed, adhering to the established works methodology and implementing control measures as per the briefing. Engage positively with both directly employed and subcontracted workforce to address any issues with the methodology or identified control measures, collaboratively developing solutions to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Conduct thorough debriefs for all work activities at the end of each shift to resolve identified issues and incorporate lessons learned into future work activities. Take an active role in ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, including Primary Response, Secondary Response, reactive and planned preventative maintenance, Environmental Protection Act 1990, and Severe Weather protocols. Perform pre-site inspections of all defect sites and planned preventative maintenance locations to ascertain work methodology and resource requirements for efficient task delivery and coordination opportunities. Provide first-line management for all Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance operatives, overseeing day-to-day personnel management including development, succession planning, training, performance evaluations, conduct, annual leave requests, timekeeping, and absence management, ensuring prompt resolution of issues and accurate record-keeping. Maintain adequate resource levels to ensure the safe execution of all work activities, proactively identifying any potential risks to the program and proposing solutions. Ensure meticulous record-keeping for all activities, documenting completed works, utilized resources, and associated costs accurately. Collect information to demonstrate third-party accountability and proof of completed works to assure our client. Participate in the creation of risk assessments and method statements, involving the workforce to identify gaps and areas for improvement, and integrating this feedback into future revisions. Deliver toolbox talks, engaging the workforce to ensure a thorough understanding of the subject matter and gathering feedback for continuous improvement. Manage fleet operations, ensuring compliance with Drivers Hours recording and Vehicle Defect reporting. Embody the values of Connect Plus Services. Maintain an unwavering focus on Zero Harm. The following qualifications and experience are essential:
Qualifications & Skills:
SSSTS or SMSTS certification. Recognized Electrical Apprenticeship. Relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds Level 3. 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations. Authorised Person in LV & HV is advantageous. MEWPS certification. Confined spaces training. Inspection & Testing C&G 2391. CSCS / ECS Card (Supervisor Grade). Qualification as an Approved Person under the BB ESSW requirement for HV and LV work.Knowledge and Experience:
Proficient knowledge and experience with generators and switchgear up to 11KV. Skilled in fault finding using schematic drawings. Comprehensive experience in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Maintenance. Familiarity with current Health & Safety legislation. Capability to perform electrical installation work in accordance with current legislation. Previous experience in road tunnels or building maintenance. Experience in highway maintenance programs delivered within cost and time targets. Knowledge and experience of health and safety, quality, and environmental standards within a highway context. Competent in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook (or equivalent). Valid UK driving license. Proven track record of managing and leading multidisciplinary teams. Strong verbal communication skills to engage operatives, colleagues, and management effectively. Ability to produce clear and comprehensible briefings and handover notes while maintaining thorough and accurate records.Behavioral Competencies:
