Job Title: Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a 'Good' Ofsted-rated secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This full-time role starts in October and runs until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming permanent depending on performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students on a one-to-one or small group basis, particularly those with special educational needs, mental health challenges, or behavioural issues
  • Assist the SENCo and pastoral team in developing and implementing personalised support plans for students
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional well-being, using psychological insights to guide interventions and strategies
  • Work alongside teachers in the classroom to ensure students are engaged and supported in their learning
  • Provide tailored support for students who may struggle with emotional regulation, concentration, or anxiety
  • Help deliver social and emotional learning (SEL) activities, encouraging students to build resilience, self-confidence, and social skills
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and other staff to ensure ongoing support and development
  • Assist with behaviour management across the school, working with students to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Support the wider school community, including participating in meetings with parents and carers, and contributing to the school's pastoral care system
  • Help students prepare for exams, offering study support and stress management techniques
Requirements:
  • A recent graduate with a degree in Psychology (or a related subject)
  • A keen interest in educational psychology, mental health, and supporting young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • An empathetic, patient, and supportive approach, with the ability to adapt strategies to meet individual needs
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly in a school or support setting, is desirable but not essential
  • A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A passion for working with young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning
