Position: Senior Prosthetist (NHS Lothian - SMART Centre, Edinburgh)
Salary: AFC Band 6 (£37,831 - £46, hours per week, permanent)
An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Senior Prosthetist within the Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology (SMART) Centre. The SMART Centre is one of five facilities in Scotland (including Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, and Inverness) that provide Rehabilitation Technology Services, serving Lothian, Fife, and the Borders, which encompasses approximately 25% of Scotland's population. Our services include Mobility and Postural Services (wheelchairs and specialized seating), Prosthetics, Orthotics, Bioengineering Services, a Disabled Living Centre, and a Gait Analysis Service. Additionally, we are one of two centres in Scotland offering a national Specialist Prosthetics Service, along with a national Driving Assessment Service and Spinal Orthotics Service.
The SMART Centre operates as part of the Rehabilitation Service within the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. Our department is equipped with specialized workshops and storage facilities on-site. The workshops are responsible for in-house manufacturing and the modification of medical devices across the various services mentioned.
The Prosthetics team comprises the Head of Prosthetics and Orthotics Services, Prosthetics Team Leads, Prosthetists, and Prosthetics Technicians. The Senior Prosthetist plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, specialized, lifelong prosthetic care to patients experiencing amputation or congenital limb loss in a clinical setting. This service is designed to be patient-centered while ensuring clinical effectiveness and cost efficiency. We seek an individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills who can demonstrate effective teamwork. The post holder will manage their own clinical caseload.

As of April 2024, NHS Scotland will be reducing the full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours, with no change in pay. This reduction will also apply pro rata for part-time staff. The current job advertisement and any subsequent employment offer will reflect these new working hours. However, not all service areas may be able to implement the 37-hour working week immediately, and you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week temporarily, for which you will be compensated until your service area adjusts its rosters or working patterns.
