Position Overview

Job Title: Lead Systems Engineer
Location: Hybrid (2 days per week on site)
Rate: Up to £780 per day (Outside IR35)

Contract Duration: 3 months+

We are seeking a Lead Systems Engineer for a prominent client in the Engineering and Technology sector, specializing in the UK defence industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to ascertain necessary technical capabilities and timelines across extensive Information Systems delivery initiatives.
  • Assume a leadership role within the client-side team, partnering with functional leads to formulate and implement time-sensitive organizational capability delivery increments.
  • Engage with project delivery teams to explore innovative working methods, capturing lessons learned to enhance future approaches.
  • Provide external support to Army HQ, Defence Digital, and the Army end customer, ensuring alignment with transformation efforts beyond the immediate delivery team.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in leading enterprise-scale solution development or evaluation within a defence framework.
  • Prior experience as a Design Authority in a complex Systems Engineering setting.
  • Demonstrated capability in steering transformation initiatives, whether in an industrial or client-side context.
  • Advocacy for both Engineering and change management activities.
  • Familiarity with architectural methodologies, standards, frameworks, and tools (preferably TOGAF/Archimate).
  • Experience applying ITIL principles within the MoD environment.
  • Solid understanding of Safety and Security Management practices relevant to the MoD.
  • Hands-on experience in configuration management and baseline development throughout the lifecycle of complex programmes.
  • Knowledge of Military Communications and Information Systems (CIS) and Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems.
