About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279). As a key member of our Nursing team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chaperone patients during examinations and assist in taking specimens while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity.
  • Carry out urinalysis and pregnancy tests, take bloods, and complete microscopy on genital swabs taken by trained staff, reporting findings and entering results onto the clinical system.
  • Explain asymptomatic screening procedures to patients and provide information on male and female condoms, emergency contraception, and STI information.
  • Enter data accurately into the computer, including demographic, personal, and clinical details of patient attendances.
  • Recognize vulnerable adults and child protection issues, assessing patients from 16 years old and above, and refer them to senior clinical colleagues immediately.
  • Input results onto patient records and text patients accordingly.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Good communication skills and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Chaperoning experience and ability to support patients.
  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent with passes in English and maths.
  • Awareness of confidentiality.
  • NVQ level 3 in healthcare, C&G certification, or equivalent level of knowledge in care and clinical observation.

Desirable

  • Microscopy experience.
  • Previous experience in Sexual Health.
  • Venepuncture experience.
  • IT skills.
