About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our dynamic team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Sexual Health and Contraception Service, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chaperone patients during examinations and assist in taking specimens while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity.
  • Carry out urinalysis, pregnancy tests, and microscopy on genital swabs, reporting findings and entering results into the clinical system.
  • Explain asymptomatic screening procedures to patients and provide information on male and female condoms, emergency contraception, and STI information.
  • Enter data accurately into the computer, including demographic, personal, and clinical details of patient attendances.
  • Recognize vulnerable adults and child protection issues, assessing patients from the age of 16 and above, and refer them to senior clinical colleagues as necessary.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Good communication skills and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to chaperone patients and support them during examinations.
  • Education to GCSE level or equivalent with passes in English and maths.
  • Awareness of confidentiality and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • NVQ level 3 in healthcare or equivalent level of knowledge in care and clinical observation.

Desirable

  • Experience in microscopy, previous experience in Sexual Health, and venepuncture.
  • IT skills and ability to accurately enter data into the computer system.
