We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Environmental Project Ecologist to provide vital support and practical guidance to our operational teams on-site.


Essential Qualifications:

Expertise in Ecology:
Comprehensive understanding of ecological management, mitigation strategies, and relevant legislation affecting development projects.

Educational Background:
Degree or Master's level education in Ecology or a related field.

Commercial Insight:
Solid understanding of environmental management principles applicable to construction sites.

Technical Proficiency:
Skilled in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Communication Skills:
Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.

CIEEM Membership:
Active member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).

Flexibility:
Valid UK driver's license and readiness to travel as needed.

Industry Experience:
Proven experience in large-scale infrastructure projects.

Desirable Attributes:
Possession of at least one protected species survey license.

As an Environmental Project Ecologist, your responsibilities will include:

Field Support:
Conducting on-site surveys, inspections, and monitoring to ensure compliance with ecological standards and project specifications.

Solution-Oriented Approach:
Developing practical and cost-effective solutions to ecological challenges encountered by our construction teams.

Collaboration:
Partnering with design teams, clients, and stakeholders to seamlessly integrate ecological considerations into project planning.

Consultative Services:
Delivering ecological consultancy services, including surveys, mitigation strategies, enhancement designs, and on-site assistance.

Technical Contributions:
Actively participating in Biodiversity Net Gain initiatives and promoting a culture of continuous improvement in ecological practices.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability: Natural Environment and project leads, your duties will encompass:

- Providing practical advice and support on ecological requirements to operational teams.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of ecological management plans.
- Cultivating and maintaining relationships with regulators, clients, design teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensuring compliance with ecological legislation and offering guidance on effective controls and mitigations.
- Maintaining the environmental management system and coordinating with senior team leads on necessary updates.
- Investigating and documenting ecological incidents.
- Conducting habitat assessments and protected species surveys.
