Consultant Physician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Elderly Care Physician to join our team at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the expansion of the Acute Frailty Service, providing specialist care to older people living with frailty.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will work closely with consultant colleagues and the Acute Frailty Team to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for local residents. The individual will be based at Conquest Hospital, but may be required to work at other sites as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Elderly Care, with special interests in Frailty and Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment. They will be able to contribute to the development of Frailty services in East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
RequirementsThe appointee must have a full GMC registration with a licence to practice. They should also have a Certificate of Completion of Training or be within six months of the award of CCT by the date of the interview or the equivalent (CESR) which is at the time of applying, on the GMC Specialist Register.
Person Specification- Excellent clinical skills and expertise in the specialty
- Able to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on call rota for the specialty
- Comprehensive clinical experience in general medicine and geriatric medicine
- Good working knowledge of the theory and practice of Geriatric Medicine
- Good all round experience in General Internal Medicine/Care of the Elderly and/or other Medicine Specialties
- Special interest and expertise in subspecialty of geriatrics
- Audit/Research
- Has attended a recognised management training event or will have such training on completion of CCT/CCST
- Supervision of post graduate trainees
- Personal time management skills
- Clinical Governance
- Ability to organise outpatient waiting lists
- Familiarity within issues of service organisation and development
- Experience of undergraduate and post graduate teaching
- Ability to teach clinical skills
- Experience of supervising junior doctors
- Experience of teaching Lay groups and other staff groups
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research
- Ability to apply research findings to clinical problems
- Ability to critically review research
- Publications in peer review journals
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrate an understanding and willingness to embrace user involvement
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate with patients and relatives
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities to local, regional and national levels
- Commitment to continuing professional development
- Willingness to work with consultant colleagues and management to maintain and develop a comprehensive service
- Able to make own arrangements for travel between working sites
- Commitment to specialty development
