Job Overview
Join Southeastern as a Railway Enforcement Officer and embark on a meaningful career.
- Take pride in ensuring the safety of passengers and providing a comforting presence throughout our railway system.
- Our comprehensive training program will transition you from a trainee to a qualified Railway Enforcement Officer, complete with a nationally-recognized certification.
- Experience a fulfilling career with competitive compensation and benefits, where each shift presents an opportunity to make a positive impact.
Your Responsibilities
As you travel on our trains and patrol our stations, you will address issues related to anti-social behavior, criminal activities, and fare evasion. This may involve intervening to de-escalate conflicts or gathering evidence and documenting minor offenses.
You will collaborate closely with your partner, station personnel, train crews, the British Transport Police, and other agencies to manage incidents and ensure that vulnerable passengers receive the necessary assistance.
Your primary base will be one of our depots located throughout the region.
Training and Development
- Upon joining, you will be enrolled in our Passenger Services Apprenticeship Programme.
- This program includes a blend of classroom instruction and practical experience, covering essential skills such as conflict resolution.
While physical intervention is a last resort, our training will equip you to handle such situations confidently and safely.
Work Schedule
- Your work schedule will be diverse, encompassing weekends, public holidays, and night shifts.
- Shifts may commence as early as 6 AM or conclude at 2 AM.
- Typically, you will alternate between one week of early shifts followed by three weeks of late shifts.
Qualifications
No prior railway experience is necessary for this position. We welcome candidates from various backgrounds.
Key qualifications include:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in customer-facing roles, particularly in conflict resolution
- Sound decision-making abilities and composure under pressure
- Resilience, assertiveness, and professionalism in challenging situations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Skills in evaluating information and making informed decisions.
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Reside within a reasonable commuting distance to your designated location
- Have been a resident of the UK for a minimum of three years
- Complete the necessary vetting process as required by the British Transport Police.
Compensation and Benefits
In addition to your salary, you will enjoy:
- A final salary pension scheme
- 28 days of annual leave (inclusive of public holidays)
- Complimentary rail travel across our network.
This ensures not only job security but also a rewarding work experience.
