Position Overview

The selected individual will become a vital member of the BBC Policy team, engaging in a challenging and prominent role centered around a dynamic and stimulating subject matter.

The focus of the BBC team will be on the forthcoming BBC Charter Review, which establishes the framework for the BBC's future while safeguarding its autonomy from governmental influence. As audience consumption patterns evolve, with a growing shift towards social media and digital platforms, the Charter Review presents a unique opportunity to assess the BBC's future role in this landscape, including its obligations to both viewers and the broader media sector, as well as its regulatory framework.

The chosen candidate will lead a specialized team dedicated to executing specific policy elements related to the Charter Review. There is flexibility to discuss the precise responsibilities of the position, tailored to the candidate's interests. You will ensure that your team meets Ministerial and departmental objectives by fostering a sense of purpose and a focus on results, making informed, evidence-based decisions, empowering and nurturing team members, and collaborating with officials across various departments.

This role is situated in a politically significant area and offers an exciting opportunity for individuals eager to contribute to a priority initiative, gaining substantial exposure to Ministers and senior officials.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will possess the following key competencies and experiences:

Essential Qualifications
  • Strategic Policy Development: Proven experience in leading the formulation and implementation of intricate policies, demonstrating an ability to maintain a comprehensive perspective and make sound decisions.
  • Team Leadership: Experience in guiding a team or managing a specific area of work, showcasing adaptability and resilience while prioritizing tasks, establishing direction, and supporting colleagues through uncertain situations.
  • Effective Communication: Strong ability to cultivate productive relationships with stakeholders, along with experience in advising and influencing senior decision-makers.
  • Project Management: Proven track record of proactively shaping team activities, managing both immediate and long-term priorities, and collaborating with others to produce high-quality outputs consistently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience collaborating with Senior Officials and/or Ministers or individuals of equivalent stature.
  • Familiarity with working alongside legal experts and analysts in a policy-making context.
  • Interest or experience in media policy.
