Section Principal Double Bass, BBC Concert Orchestra

Join the BBC Concert Orchestra as a Section Principal Double Bassist and contribute to the ensemble's mission to bring inspiring musical experiences to everyone, everywhere.
Main Responsibilities:- Lead the Double Bass section with musical and artistic excellence
- Maintain high standards of professional playing and musicality
- Familiarize yourself with relevant parts, including solos, in advance of rehearsals and performances
- Support the Leader and Conductor in their roles
- Take responsibility for the style, intonation, balance, ensemble, rhythm, and preparation of the Section
- Lead and manage the Section effectively, sharing responsibility with the management for the players' performance
- Assist with and consult on the compilation of the list of freelance musicians in the Section
- Foster an environment where artistic excellence flourishes
- Develop and support positive working relationships with all members of the Orchestra, Section, and freelance players
- Participate in audition panels and trial assessment meetings, and in orchestral and artistic meetings as required
- Engage in general activities of the Orchestra, such as attendance at meetings, promotional activity, and outreach and learning work, and act as an ambassador for the BBC and the BBC Concert Orchestra
- Be a role model for BBC Values and work in accordance with the BBC/MU Agreement, the Information for Orchestral Players Handbook, and all other BBC policies and guidelines
- Support all BBC policies on managing people and diversity, including participation in Personal Development Reviews and training
- Work in accordance with BBC Health and Safety guidelines and policy
- Excellent professional orchestral and solo Double Bass playing ability
- Knowledge of the range of repertoire of the BBC Concert Orchestra
- Ability to lead and work collaboratively to inspire and contribute to performances that meet the highest musical standards
- Effective people and performance management skills, including the ability to give constructive feedback and make difficult decisions
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and develop harmonious working relationships with a diverse range of people
- Commitment to maintaining the reputation of the Orchestra
- Ability to plan ahead and prepare parts in advance
- Awareness of health and safety issues
The BBC Concert Orchestra is a versatile ensemble that explores a wide range of classical and contemporary music. The Orchestra performs regularly at London's Southbank Centre, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, and venues across the UK, and makes annual appearances at the BBC Proms.
